Tunto LED 8 PowerKiss Desk Lamp Can Wirelessly Charge Your Gadgets

Who would have thought that an ultra-cool LED lamp that features a wireless inductive charging surface mashed into one uber modern piece of technological lightpiece would cost upwards of $1400? The Tunto LED 8 PowerKiss table lamp is far from my budget for a desk lamp, but the things that I would do to own one... Its got an array of 9 bright LED lights for a total brightness output of 870 lumens hidden inside an ultra-thin piece of brilliantly finished wood of your choosing that is bent into its minimalist and Finnish designed shape. What's more is that the Tunto LED 8 PowerKiss lamp features touch-sensitive buttons for adjusting the light intensity and of course power on/off. What you won't be getting are ambient light sensors that will automatically adjust the light for you.

The lamp was designed by an award-winning design brand called Tunto with help of wireless charging technology made by PowerKiss. If your device doesn't support wireless charging, you've got to plug in a PowerKiss Ring adapter which will then let you wirelessly charge your device when set on top of the lamp's wooden base. PowerKiss' wireless technology does support the Qi standard, but the company doesn't offer any Apple Lightning adapters yet as one could also tell by the iPhone 4S being charged in the photo above. It's a beautiful piece nonetheless. And if you could live without the wireless charging feature, you'll be saving a whole lot of cash going with one of Tunto's smaller LED1 models that start at $660, and are also offered in multiple vibrant colors.

MyLED Adds An External LED Notification Light To iPhone

Don't you wish your iPhone had a clever little LED indicator to alert you of new notifications? Android smartphones have had this convenient feature for ever now, it's time that iPhone users get the same treatment. The MyLED is a tiny $15 LED dongle that plugs into your iPhone's 3.5mm headphone jack, protruding out from any protective case you might have on for optimal visibility. The visual blinking LED light will blink red whenever you get an email, tweets, missed calls and other notifications with the help of the accompanied app which will run in the background. It's designed to keep tabs on iOS notifications that have gone unnoticed by you, for what ever reason.

The MyLED is all about simple convenience. With it injected into your iPhone's headphone jack, you'll spend less time delibretly checking your phone for any important events you've might have missed whilst you were away or simply addicted to social networking. The MyLED will also work with the iPad. The only significant caveat is that you will have to sacrafice your headphone listening enjoyment. As if that wasn't pretty obvious.

Leatherman Acquires LED Flashlight Company

Leatherman Tool Group Inc. has completed the acquisition of a majority stake in Zweibrüder Optoelectronics GmbH &Co. KB (say THAT five times fast!). They are best known for their range of LED Lenser lights, the most popular LED Light in Europe.

The acquisition gives the largest multi-tool maker in the world another range of technology to incorporate into  their tools. With lumen outputs ranging from tiny to 1000 plus there are a host of applications for the LED Lenser products.

LED Lenser brings a range of unique approaches to lights, including combining lens and reflector based systems in a single flashlight. This overcomes the weakness of either approach and allows their lights to be equally effective in up-close and distance applications.

Their Rapid Focus method of adjustment is simple to accomplish with one hand and is incorporated into all their lights with Advanced Focus System functionality. Although only completed at the beginning of August it will be very interesting to see the applications that a company like Leatherman can find for these LED lights.

Further info on LED Lenser and Leatherman are available at their websites.

Packlight Packs A Bright, Flexible Punch

Who doesn't love LEDs? I sure do. That bright white illumination is so attractive I feel like a fly that's attracted to that electric blue light of death. Simply put, the Packlight is a flexible light strip that you can bend and shape to light up various objects and where you need a bright light most. The possibilities are pretty much endless with the Packlight, using it for photography and video purposes comes to mind. This isn't just another LED strip, the Packlight packs 45 bright LEDs in a waterproof, silicone constructed strip that can bend and hold its shape, and even magnetically attach to metal surfaces thanks to the built-in strong neodymium magnet ends.

Other features like multiple brightness modes, built-in USB rechargeable battery and hanging river holes makes this the perfect light source for anything that comes your way. The Packlight is one sweet gadget to have around, and it can be pre-ordered in black or red for $45 over at Kickstarter.

Quirky Mantis Clip-On LED Task Lamp

Another quirky gadget comes to us from Quirky called the Mantis, an LED task lamp with a clip. You can use the attachable clip to hook the Mantis under your iMac so shine some light on your keyboard or you can even use it as a free-standing desk lamp. The Mantis is only powered by two AA batteries, that is a con right there. The 11 bright LEDs have two light intensity settings for high and low light. Until Apple comes out with an illuminated desktop keyboard, the Mantis seems like a useful gadget. The Mantis is currently on pre-sale for $26.99 over at Quicky, which is similar to the Kickstarter method of funding new inventions.
