OtterBox Commuter for iPhone 4 Review
OtterBox is known for making rugged cases that can withstand most bumps and drops. This time we are looking at their "Mid-Range" Case, the Commuter. Its the middle of the line slotting between the Defender and Impact Cases. Its a Hybrid style case consisting of a Soft Silicone wrapped by a Plastic outer shell. It Retails for $34.99 in a variety of color combinations and comes packaged with a screen protector. So Is it worth the money? Read on to find out.
Looking around the case, they have covered up volume and sleep/wake buttons, the dock connector and headphone jack have built-in Port Covers. Also the Ring/Vibrate switch opening is arge and is easily accessible. On the back the camera cutout has separate cutouts for the Lens and the LED Flash and the Apple Logo on the back is exposed.
The Case is a very tight fit once you get it on and it feels sturdy. To avoid any issues with "Sagging Silicone" OtterBox has made the plastic layer wrap around all four sides of the case, thus preventing any imminent issues. The buttons have a nice click to them and you don't feel like you're pushing down too much to hit the buttons. Also a nice touch are the port covers that are incorporated into the silicone layer, they add nice protection from dust getting into the headset jack or 30-Pin Connector.
There are some weak points of the case too. First is the 30-Pin port cover gets loose over time and won't stay in the slot, making it useless. Also for those who plan on using their phone on a dock, this case is not the one since the port cover blocks it. Also while it looks nice that the Apple logo is uncovered, there's nothing to protect it, thus leaving it prone to scratching.
Overall, despite the minor setbacks, This is one of the best cases I've used. It feels solid, offers top-level protection and is definitely worth the money. Be sure to check this one out!
