GoPro Hero3 Rugged Extreme Cameras Shoot 4K Video

GoPro has announced its latest and greatest Hero3 extreme action cameras today which are twice as fast, have a 30% smaller form factor and are 25% lighter than their predecessors. The Hero3 comes in three different models that include the $400 Black Edition, $300 Silver Edition and the $200 White Edition. All three feature a new user interface, built-in WiFi, Improved audio recording and wind-noise reduction, rugged waterproof housing, full 1080p HD video recording at 30fps or 720p HD video at 60fps, reduced distortion and improved sharpness thanks to the redesigned flat lens.

GoPro's higher end Hero3 Black Edition includes a waterproof wireless WiFi remote control and is capable of shooting 1080p at a higher 60fps than its two new siblings. But for your $400, it will boast superior low-light performance and will also shoot massive 4K at a diminutive 12fps and 2.7K video resolutions at an impressive 30fps and packs a 12-megapixel sensor for still photos. The difference between the White Edition and Silver Edition Hero3 cameras is a 5-megapixel sensor compared to the 11-megapixel sensor inside the Silver Edition. GoPro's Hero3 cameras are now available for pre-order and are expected to start shipping near the end of the month.
