The popular gadget accessory maker iSkin has outed their Fuse SE Special Edition case for the iPhone 4/S that is stunning in both aesthetics and functionality. Big names such as Otterbox has been the go-to solution for the ultimate protection when it comes to our smartphones, but iSkin's Fuse SE looks to challenge Otterbox's reign. Featuring a dual layer design, this case defies the paradigm that the best protection comes in a thick package. Presented in a low-profile and lightweight design, the Fuse SE is tough on the outside and soft on the inside.
Constructed out of smooth polycarbonate, the outer layer is scratch resistant and sturdy to provide excellent protection from drops in any sort of scenario. Peel back its hard shell and you'll find another layer of thermo-polymer that cushions your actual iPhone from the drops. This dual layer technology is not unfamiliar; Speck incorporates this concept in most of its cases. Yet, the iSkin Fuse only adds bare millimeters to the overall bulk. Not to mention, without any unnecessary dents and groves, the outer layer is comfortable to the touch and fits naturally in the hand.
Going to the sides of this case, all of the ports and buttons are safely protected from everything nature can throw at it. All of your buttons can be easily accessed and the holes provide enough room for most earphone jacks to fit as well as adequate sound to reach the microphone.
The case utilizes an unique approach to its actual installation. This two piece design connects through interlocking parts in the shape of puzzle pieces which forms a strong seal between the two pieces. It may be difficult to remove at times, but at least when you drop it, you know your case won't fall apart.
Unlike most cases, the iSkin Fuse provides even more protection in the form of a removable 30 pin connector cover that tightly seals the port from dust and moisture. Stuck onto the back with strong adhesive, the cover can be easily removed. iSkin provides two extra cover pieces just in case you change your mind.
Surprisingly, that is not the only extra goodies iSkin threw in. Inside the packaging, you'll also find a nice sized microfiber cloth along with a pack of LCD screen wipes. Of course, what kind of product would this be without… STICKERS!
Only available in the SE model, the iSkin Fuse SE adds additional protection in the front in the form of a sleek and modern brushed-metal finish that gives your iPhone an extra aesthetics appeal. If you choose the SE model, you won't have any color choices; the Fuse SE is only available in the carbon finish. With that in mind, the overall color scheme of the case would work best with the black version of the iPhone.
Without the added bulk, the iSkin Fuse provides fantastic protection in its sleek and comfortable design. You don't need layer upon layer of indestructible material. Most of us don't plan to throw our iPhones across rooms or down flights of stairs. If you're in this category, the iSkin Fuse SE would be a great choice for your next case purchase. It fits inside your pockets without a problem, it doesn't feel like a huge brick phone in your hand, and most importantly, it'll keep your investment safe.
From the unboxing to this review, the iSkin Fuse SE has proven to be an excellent case and we don't hesitate to recommend this product to anybody. Although, if you are on a tight budget, the iSkin Fuse SE's $60 price tag may scare you away. If you aren't interested in the extra frontal protection, there is also the iSkin Fuse that sells at $50. Of course, if you don't mind spending the extra cash, the iSkin Fuse will be a fantastic purchase that will be well worth your investment.
