For this edition of the Gadgetmac Guide we've rounded up a very particular set of minimalist cases for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Cases that that are so thin and slim you won't even noticed you're using protection. We're talking about the elusive ultra-thin class of impossibly slim cases that aren't made to offer drop protection, but are designed to make it feel like you're holding onto the bare naked body of your seamlessly rounded iPhone 6 or 6 Plus. At only under 0.4mm, all these cases have got left to offer is light protection against scratches, nicks and small dents that can be caused from normal everyday use. The goal in using such a thin case is to add a nearly indiscernible layer of lightweight protection that will not interfere with the original design of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Because no one really wants to make a big iPhone, especially the iPhone 6 Plus, even bigger. While there are plenty of slim cases on offer, we are only going to be featuring the slimmest there are at 0.4mm, all the way down to just 0.35mm thick. How slim is that exactly? To put things into prospective – as thin as an eggshell. These cases are so slim that even the back-facing camera on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus will still protrude above the flat surface of the case.
The tradeoff of course is that these ultra-thin and slim cases aren't going to provide any screen protection like an ordinary case with a lip surrounding the glass, which fortunately means that you'll be able to slide your finger off that perfectly rounded glass edge. And what iPhone 6 and 6 Plus user is going to argue with that. It's also worth mentioning that every single one of these cases is compatible with tempered glass screen protectors in case you'd like to protect the front side of your device and not only the back, sides and edges. First on our list is a case by a case manufacturer that most of you may already be familiar with. The $13 - $15 Air Skin case by Spigen is the company's thinnest case at only 0.4mm thick. Made using a semi-transparent compressed polycarbonate material that features a Urethane coating to help prevent discoloration and resists fingerprints, this skin-tight case weighs only 4 grams and is designed to provide a form-fitted ultra-slim fit around the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. It's available in five different translucent colors that let the native design of the iPhone show through the thin, matte finished polycarbonate material.

There are slim cases, and then there are unbelievably slim cases. Second on our list is the Slight 6 by Desmay, a $23 case is currently only available for the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 model in four semi-translucent hues including a solid black color. The Slight 6 is even thinner than the Spigen Air Skin at just 0.35mm, and said to be made out of a special PP material. We're guessing that means Polypropylene plastic. Each case features a matte textured finish that's pleasantly soft to the touch and is designed to provide top and bottom coverage in addition to protecting the back side of the iPhone. It's available in semi-transparent clear, blue, pink, gray and solid black. Making ultra-slim cases is the company's forte, but we really hope to see Desmay release an iPhone 6 Plus version of its Slight 6 case sooner rather than later.
Slight 6 for iPhone 6
Last but certainly not least is the $15 Veil case by Caudabe, yet another extraordinarily thin 0.35mm case made available for both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Caudabe's Veil case is made out of a scratch-resistant and durable plastic material that features a fingerprint-resistant, finely textured matte finish with semi-transparent properties enabling you to appreciate the native design of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus whilst feeling like you're holding onto a caseless iPhone. Like the rest of the ultra-thin cases on our list, the Caudabe Veil case doesn't interfere with finger swiping across and off the rounded glass edge of the iPhone. The Veil case has been a popular favorite since the introduction of the iPhone 5 for its inexpensive price, one year hassle-less warranty and high quality, minimalist design. But unlike its rivals, it's only available in frosted clear and smoke black colors.
If you're looking for optimal grip, alas none of these insanely thin cases will offer you that. We highly recommend the next best thing, a still slim enough case like the Spigen Thin Fit. Unlike ultra-thin cases, the Thin Fit case is a more rigid polycarbonate protective case that offers similar protection with the added benefit of a minimal 0.3mm lip around the front side that raises the glass panel above a flat surface in order to help reduce screen damage. It also features a non-slip matte soft-touch rubberized coating that adds a lot of grip when holding your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus – all without adding noticeable bulk. The Thin Fit is also just thick enough to protect the back-facing camera and eliminate the otherwise uneven profile caused by the camera's protrusion. Though it's worth mentioning that only the black colored Thin Fit case features this type of grippy finish. It's also noticeably thicker at 8.5mm in comparison, but it'll still feel great to hold versus a regular case. If you care more about grip and less about sleek definition, this is the case for you.
