WD's Refreshed My Passport Portable Drive Series Get A Unibody Treatment

Western Digital, also known as WD, has revamped its My Passport and My Passport Studio external portable hard drives for Mac users to boast an ever sleeker, new sturdy all-metal slim enclosures. It's obvious WD is trying to target tech savvy students who are in love with Apple's aluminum fantasy world of quality products with its raw silver on black aluminum designed My Passport drive. The My Passport for Mac is available in 500GB, 750GB and 1TB storage capacities starting at $99, and is compatible with Apple Time Machine and includes WD Security for password protecting and hardware encryption. 

The My Passport Studio on the other hand is targeted towards professionals needing faster transfer speeds, and for that the My Passport Studio has dual FireWire 800 ports which are the only thing setting the two drives apart, and of course the price. The My Passport Studio starts its price at $129. Both drives sport a USB port and are also USB powered. Sorry, no Thunderbolt capabilities quite yet. You may want to hold out for a bit longer for thunder speeds.

Western Digital Ships Behemoth Scorpio Blue 1TB 2.5" Notebook Hard Drive

Oh yes, Western Digital has released a new Scorpio Blue 2.5" (9.5mm) internal SATA III hard drive with a massive 1TB storage capacity using only 2 platters that is compatible with all standard notebooks. The new 1TB Scorpio Blue WD10JPVT hard drive is the first 1TB 2.5" hard drive that has started shipping on the market. It isn't a Ferrari at 5400RPM, but at least it's a minor improvement over the previous, slightly thicker 12.5mm 1TB model at only 5200RPM. Western Digital has designed its Scorpio Blue behemoth to have a low power consumption for longer battery life performance and coupled it with WhisperDrive technology for quite performance. The WD Scorpio Blue 1TB 2.5" hard drive is now shipping and available at retailers for $140. Or a bit cheaper at Newegg. 

New WD My Book Studio LX Matches Your Mac

Western Digital's new My Book Studio XL external desk hard drives are a perfect match for you Mac, in appearance of course. This desktop drive is made out of an anodized aluminum enclosure and even has a small white LED indicator as well as a small e-label screen that lets you see what types of files you are storing and how much space they are taking up and how much space you have left. You can also view those stats even when the drive is not plugged into a power source. It comes with a firewire 800 interface as well as USB 2.0.
