Droid Kicks Apple Where it Hurts!

You can't deny it, the Droid has got one awesome marketing team. The previous viral Droid campaign, Droid Does, contributed to the success of the Droid and it looks like they’re looking to continue the awesome ads with this one. Seen as a full page ad in the New York Times, they’ve still got some magic up their sleeves. See the ad below:

Now the bit that hurts Apple is in the bottom paragraph where it says "The Droid is the ultimate smartphone with its gigantic screen and HD connectivity. But most importantly it comes with a double antenna design.  The kind that allows you to hold the phone any way you like and use it just about anywhere to make crystal clear calls.”  Now that has got to hurt!

Angry Birds on Android

The insanely addictive and successfully iPhone game, Angry Birds, is now coming to Android. Angry Birds is developed Rovio mobile and is the No.1 in 50+ countries.

The aim is simple, you have to fire birds off a catapult into pigs that are protected. Simple but difficult to understand. And the replay value is great as it never gets boring. And now the best-selling iPhone game is now coming to the Android Marketplace.

Android 2.2 Froyo now available for Nexus One

 

If you have a Nexus One, you may have received a notification that a over-the-air update for Android 2.2 FRF85 (or Froyo) is available for download. However if you haven't you can download it from Google's servers to update from EPE54B to FRF85.

Alternatively, here is a direct link to download a FRF85 build that'll supposedly work for any Android build. Engadget has confirmed that it worked for them on a T-Mobile Nexus One with 2.1 / ERE27. Download it from Google here. Also go here to see the official report from Google about the update.

Android 2.2 Now Available on Open Source

 

Today at the Droid X announcement in New York, Andy Rubin announced that the latest version of the Android OS 2.2 Froyo is going to be available today for open source. Froyo was announced at the latest Google I/O conference and has loads more features including a JIT compiler for better graphics, wifi hotspot and full flash support.

Droid X Gets Officially Announced

 

Today in New York, Motorola announced the latest version of their Droid range of phones; The Droid X. This brand new android phone will run a less intrusive version of MotoBlur, called NinjaBlur and here is the full list of features below:

  • Released on July 15th for $200
  • 1Ghz TI OMAP 4630 Processor
  • Runs Android 2.1 with Ninjablur but going to be upgraded to 2.2 Froyo later this summer
  • 512MB of RAM
  • 8GB Internal Memory, comes with a 16GB card which is expandable up to 32Gb
  • 4.3" Screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio
  • 854x480 Display Resolution
  • 8Mp Auto focus camera with 720p video recording
  • Duel LED Flash
  • 1930mAh Battery back available in a few months, but adds only 1mm extra thickness!
  • Full Flash 10 support
  • Data Plan totally unlimited says Verizon CEO
  • Wifi Hotspot that can connect up to 5 other devices ($20/mo extra)
  • Tethering support, that adds 2Gb cap of data
  • Enterprise support with exchange support, push email, corporate directory, security protocols and remote wipe
  • For existing Verizon customers, you can update any time in 2010 for $200 a/r

Verizon Releases Droid X Teaser

A bit creepy and it doesn't show the phone and it doesn't have any information, but I want to see what the phone has in store. However there is some features like 720p video recording and a 4.3" screen (read more here) that are already known but I want to see if there are anymore new features in the Droid X

White EVO 4G Coming only to Best Buy

 

Over the past few weeks, the EVO 4G has been the one of the best android handsets that you can buy. And when you thought it couldn't get any better, it did, as the of today you can pre-order a white EVO 4G! The handset will be sold exclusively through Best Buy until August 8th when the Sprint store will have it and September for all other retailers. So assuming that you managed to not get a balck EVO 4G and that the price will stay the same at $199, you must be mad not to get the white version.
