Verizon Denies You Unlimited Data

Verizon Wireless has just recently announced its plans to slowly phase out unlimited data users currently grandfathered into it as they upgrade to 4G LTE. This move will affect a major portion of the company’s customer-base as the current iPhone users who upgrade to the alleged LTE iPhone sometime this year will have to choose amongst tiered plans.

"When asked how Verizon will drive customers to this new data share plan, Shammo said that LTE will be the anchor for the new plan and that as customers upgrade from 3G to LTE, they will have to be on a data share plan, allowing the company to sunset its unlimited 3G data plan. “A lot of our 3G base is on unlimited,” Shammo said. “When they migrate off 3G they will have to go to data share. That is beneficial to us.”

Verizon plans to announce their family data plans and pricing sometime this summer. This could be potentially beneficial for customers with multiple smartphones with LTE capabilities.

It's here...or will be: Apple iPhone for Verizon

In today's special press event, Verizon announced a new partnership with Apple, and stated that the iPhone will be coming to the CDMA network early next month. Verizon stores are being stocked with the iPhone 4 this week, and existing customers should be able to pre-order the phone on February 3rd. The iPhone will be available in Apple and Verizon stores on February 10th. Pricing is set at $199 for the 16gb version and $299 for the 32gb version. Verizon has also claimed beefing up their network in preparation for the surge of customers. Time will tell how this combination plays out.

Verizon's LTE Network Coming Very Soon

Engadget has just received some internal documents on Verizon's 4G plans which seem to be the real thing. It mainly states information that we already know life between 5 and 12Mbps download speeds, aircards first before smartphones, and plans to deploy in 30 cities in 2010. However, the documents also say that they're still on track to serve up 100 million connections by the end of the year. Engadget have also receivced some pics of Verizon computers with the LTE SIM cards.

Another thing that the documents claim are that LTE has 30ms of latency! This would mean that the network would be blazing fast. We should also see some LTE tablets in 2011.

HTC Fights Back to Apple's Claims

At Apple's press conference on Friday, Steve Jobs showed 3 phones that had the same antenna problems as the iPhone 4. This made Nokia and RIM retaliate to what Steve Jobs said about their phones. (Read here) But the third phone showed was the Droid Eris, and this had the most drastic drop of signal. It went straight from 4 bars all the way down to 0 bars.

HTC have not acted like Nokia and RIM to Apple's claims, but they have given a percentage of the people calling technical suport about the Droid Eris's antenna problem. Apple claimed that 0.55% of customers called AppleCare about the antenna issue but HTC is claiming that the Droid Eris technical support line received only 0.016% of people calling about the antenna issue. About thirty-four times lower than Apple's claim.
