Another new Apple Patent is showing that the company wants another way to input commands. In the patent you could swirl your finger over a specific area or scratch and this would drive a certain command on the device. The patent outlines that this could be done by listening in to the housing itself or just keeping an electronic ear listening to the sounds of touching the surface. This probably wont be in any new products anytime, and this is probably just is research.
Apple has been publishing a lot of new patents, from a 'Magic Mouse with display', to 'Cover Flow-like spiral interface' but nothing like the latest 'Smart bezel'. The patent details the bezel all the way around the device will be touch sensitive and contain touch sensors, pressure sensors, light emitters, haptic actuators, and accelerometers. With all these in the bezel you wouldn't need to have settings for volume control or brightness and much more. Also the patent seems to describe ways to use the bezel for locking/unlock a device, toggle a device on and off, and toggle silent/load function. This could actually get rid of the lock/unlock button and home button and create the button-less iPad. This could also make its way onto Apple's MacBooks/Macbook Pro's. It is obvious that Apple is looking for an alternate input method to push their technology further in the tablet market.

Today, Samsung announced that they are going to be making an Android tablet to rival the iPad's tablet crown. It is going to be called the Samsung Galaxy and is going to be similar to the Samsung Galaxy S phone.
So what do we know about the Samsung Galaxy. Well it will run Android with TouchWiz UI, it has 3G capabilities, it has a front facing camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack, it could make calls because of the Phone icon, and has a 7" TFT display.
Now Engadget have suggested that this could change to an AMOLED display and that it could have access to Samsung's App Store as Google doesn't currently allow the Android Marketplace to be used on Android tablets.
Perhaps, the most important of all the features on the tablet is that it will use essentially the same processor as in the upcoming iPhone 4/HD and iPad, the A4 chip or Hummingbird S5PC110.
Now the tablet haters out there might say that this is just a big Samsung Galaxy S but only time will tell if it is going to be a success like the iPad.
