This is yet another real carbon fiber case made for the iPhone 4 by MonCarbone. We have reviewed the HoverCoat in matte and glossy versions for the iPad in the past and really liked it. You cannot go wrong with the HoverCoat iPhone 4 case if you are a real carbon fiber lover. The HoverCoat case for the iPhone 4 is a back snap-on case the once you have it on your iPhone 4, you will hardly even notice it's there. It's incredibly thin and lightweight yet it feels really solid because of it's carbon fiber construction.
The NUDE by SwitchEasy is an ultra thin case that provides protection for the back of your iPad without adding any bulk what so ever. The NUDE is only 1mm in thickness and it really lets you enjoy your iPad as if it was naked. This is a high quality back cover without any sharp corners or edges, it's cut perfectly to fit the iPad. You've got easy access to your buttons, dock and orientation lock switch. Even the speakers cutouts are precisely cut. The NUDE provides great protection against any harmful scratches or dents being made to your iPad's delicate aluminum. Your iPad's back is fully covered by the NUDE's hard polycarbonate as well as all around the iPad's sides. The only thing the NUDE will no protect is your iPad's front screen. There is not lip over the bezel so you need to take note of that. While the NUDE is mostly a back cover case for the iPad, it is highly recommended. The neat thing about this clear version of the NUDE is that you can have a skin like the GelaSkins installed on your iPad's back side, and showcase it off.
It's not everyday you see a case like this around. This is the iSkinVu case for the iPad and it isn't your typical iPad case, this case is an eye catcher. The Vu looks amazing with it's semi-transparant color combination and unique detailed pattern that is found all over the case. The Vu features a hybrid combination of hard clear plastic and a colored TPU material which is also known as Thermoplastic, a semi-flexible rubbery plastic. This combination of hard plastic and TPU materials make the Vu a great all around protective case against bumps, scratches and even small drops. iSkin's Vu has Microban protection to help keep the colors from fading and discoloring over time, and it also helps keep germs off. If you're using Apple's iPad Dock, the Vu has a back dock cover which slides on and off do allow for docking.
While looks are great, function is always a big thing with cases, and the Vu does have a few negative aspects. The Vu has a pretty thick TPU that covers part of the iPad's bezel and fully covers the bottom home button area. This is great for protection but it also makes for very hard and somewhat frustrating installation. Once I got the Vu on my iPad I noticed that there is a good lip all around the iPad's bezel, however these lips did not completely sit flush on the glass surface. Because of the thickness of the material it looks like it lifts a bit off the surface. This isn't a big issue with comfort but it does make it a bit hard to press down on the side volume buttons because they are fully covered. Also, the volume and rotation switch are covered with flaps that you need to dig in with your finger nails just to get to those covered areas.
The Vu features a back dock cover which you can remove in order to dock your iPad with Apple's iPad Dock. But this cover is a big pain to get in and off and it just made me not even want to take it off ever. But once you do have this dock cover installed on the Vu, it does not completely stay flush with the seem that it connects to. I do hope this does get fixed after a while. Overall the Vu looks fantastic when it's on the iPad and it also feels great to hold with it's textured patters all over the back on the front of the case. Both the texture and the TPU material gives you a good grip. The Vu does not attract any lint or dust so it keeps looking good. For $64.99 I would expect the Vu to not have any of these issues mentioned, but it certainly gives you that great protection and good looks. The Vu is available in seven colors. Price $64.99.
Cyber Acoustics's Leather iPad Cover, which is more of a folio type case for the iPad has a very simple smooth design on the outside. On the inside there is a very smart mounting system for the iPad which is made from clear rubber that neatly holds and presents your iPad to you once you need to use it. This rubber mounting system looks like it would also provide a little shock protection from back bumps to the case. This leather folio actually feels protective because it's slightly padded unlike other folios. The front and back of the folio are pretty tough and hard so they seem to provide a good amount of protection. The leather quality isn't the best but it's definitely sufficient if you don't care much for high quality leather. The insides are lined with felt material which isn't super soft but it gets the job done. You can use the inner hand bungee strap on the inside of the flap which you flip over and secure it in place by two little straps, for when you want to hold your iPad by sliding your hand thru the strap. This actually provides some security and grip.
Switching to the typing angle works flawlessly and it provides a great steady typing angle, I'm actually typing this review using my iPad with this folio and I find it to be comfortable. The front flap slides into a back slot and allows you to use both the typing and upright functions of the case. When it the upright landscape angle, the case is fairly steady even while using the screen lightly. If you want to use your iPad normally, you can flip the front flap over and back while using both the bungee straps to secure the flap to the case itself, this works the same way when you want to fully close up the case. This folio isn't the slimmest on the market and does add some bulk. While I really like the rubber grip mount that securely holds the iPad in place, it could lift up any screen shields you might have installed on your screen. Whether if you have the Leather Folio closed or opened, you've got full access to all your iPad's ports and buttons without any obstacles in your way. You can currently pick up your Cyber Acoustics Leather iPad Cover only in black leather. Price $39.99.
