Farmville for iPhone

The most popular social game on the internet, Farmville has released their iPhone app after demoing it at the WWDC keynote. The farmville will sync with your facebook farm so now you can plough, plant and harvest your crops on the iPhone on the move. The iPhone version of FarmVille has new touch controls that allow you to farm faster and easier.  The game also features new iDevice exclusive items which include a Snow Leopard for you to put on your farm.

But if you have got some money burning in your pocket you can use in-app purchases to buy huge amounts of coins and farm cash from anywhere between $4.99 – $49.99.

However, as this was intended for the iPhone 4 release, it looks like it doesn't have many iOS4 features, including multi-tasking and retina support.

iPhone 4 Has Signal Problems?

Well for all of those people who have waited for hours on end for your brand new iPhone 4, you may of been disappointed as there has been many reports of the iPhone 4 having signal problems. Now this only happens when you hold the iPhone in your left hand with the metal band touching your skin. And if you go back to the WWDC keynote, Steve Jobs said that the join between the 2 parts of the antenna join in the bottom left hand corner; so the contact with your hand could be short-circuiting the antenna.

Now this happens EVERY time your touch the bottom left hand corner and it slowly loses signal strength and then eventually drops the call. Not Good. See the video below.

iPhone 4 Battery Lasts 38 Hours!

One of the major disadvantage of the iPhone 3GS was the battery life. Most of the time it wouldn't last a whole day of use and you had to charge it every day. Well at the WWDC conference on June 7th, Steve Jobs said that the battery life was even better and this turns out to be true. Well according to Walt Mosberg, Engadget and BoingBoing.

Engadget

"The battery life on the iPhone 4 has been outstanding thus far, exceeding our expectations for longevity during testing. We’ve only had a short time to use the phone, but in the week or so we’ve been carrying the device as our main phone, we’ve had pretty amazing results under normal to heavy use. In fact, we managed to squeeze more than 38 hours — yes, 38 hours — of life out of a single charge using the phone as we normally would. We’re talking calls, some gaming, lots of push email and calendar invites, playing music over Bluetooth in the car, and just general testing (like downloading new apps, rearranging icons, tweaking settings). We went from 10:30AM on a Saturday morning till 1:00AM on Monday without needing to charge the phone. Of course, it switched itself off just after the clock struck 1, but it was thrilling — like that episode of Seinfeld where Kramer and the car salesman see how far they can get in a car with the tank on E. Sitcom references aside, the battery life seems markedly improved in the iPhone 4, and why not? It’s got a much larger battery coupled with that iPad-powering A4, which has already shown that it can sip rather than gulp power."

Walt Mosberg:

"Apple claims longer battery life for most functions—seven hours of talk time, for instance, versus five hours on the earlier model. I didn’t perform a precise battery test, but, even in heavy use, the iPhone 4’s battery never reached the red zone on a single day of my tests."

BoingBoing:

"With light use, but with 3G data and WiFi turned on the whole time, I got a full 4 days of battery life. With very heavy video recording and playback, instant messaging, email and data tethering over 3G, I got a full day of battery life. I didn’t have enough time before this review to do careful benchmark testing against Apple’s claims, so I can’t provide specific percentages, but it felt like the battery life was a good 20-25% meatier.

Apple promises up to 7 hours of talk time on 3G and 14 hours of talk time on 2G, Standby time of up to 300 hours, up to 10 hours of solid use on Wi-Fi, up to 10 hours of video playback, and 40 hours of audio playback.

Compare that with the stats promised for Apple’s iPhone 3GS: up to 5 hours talk time on 3G, up to 12 on 2G. Up to 5 hours of internet use on 3G, up to 9 hours on Wi-Fi. Up to 10 hours of video playback, and 30 hours of audio playback."

White iPhone 4 Not Available Until Late July

Apple has just released a press release stating that the white iPhone will not be available for purchase until the second half of july because "it is more difficult to manufacture," but nobody knows what those difficulties are. Apple also says that it will not affect the supply of the black iPhone 4. So if you want an iPhone 4 now, you have to get the black one, but if your heart is set on the white one, well another month you will have to wait.

Here is what the statment said:

"White models of Apple's new iPhone® 4 have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected, and as a result they will not be available until the second half of July. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected."

iPhone 4 Already Scratched

Apple said the iPhone 4 was scratch-resistant. Well, Gdgt editor Ryan Block got a scratch on the iPhone 4 in normal daily use. Now you might say that Apple said that it was not scratch-proof, but scratch-resistant. However, they also say that it is "Chemically strengthened to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic," but this doesn't look good.

Well it might be more scratch resistant than the 3GS, but I wouldn't go throwing it around, or putting it in the same pocket as your keys as it can still scratch. Even on day one.

iFixit iPhone 4 Teardown - 512Mb of RAM Confirmed

To nobody's surprise, iFixit has managed to get hold of an iPhone 4. And guess what they took it back to the lab, and did an iPhone 4 teardown. This is what they got from it:

"We have confirmed that the iPhone’s A4 processor has 512 MB RAM, unlike the iPad’s more limited 256 MB. This decision may have been made fairly late in Apple’s development cycle, because early leaked prototype phones only had 256 MB."

They have also confirmed that the retina display is protected by Gorrila Glass

"The front glass panel of the iPhone is constructed of Corning Gorilla Glass, a chemically strengthened alkali-aluminosilicate thin sheet glass that is reported to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic.

Gorilla Glass holds many advantages as the iPhone 4’s front panel including its high resistance to wear and increased strength from a strengthening process."
