iPhone 4 Catches Fire!

Yes, it is a burnt iPhone 4! According to BGR, the brand new iPhone 4 caught on fire while plugged into to a computer using the USB cable! And when the customer brought the phone into the Apple store to try and get it fixe, but it is clear that it cannot be repaired. Apple says that the cause was defective USB port and not some a user error. BGR's source said that the phone became very hot and burned their hand. As you can see from the picture, the USB cord was very badly melted, but the iPhone wasn't as bad. Hopefully this is the first and the last case of an iPhone 4 catching fire.

Fring Update Allows iPhone Video Calls over 3G!

Nobody knew if Apple was going to approve 3rd-party apps that use the front facing camera for video calls on the iPhone 4, but now we do. As Fring, just updated it's iPhone app to support video calling! But the great thing about this is that it that it works over 3G. It is a bit more complicated than Apple's Facetime service, which requires WiFi to work but is very simple and intuitive. But it Fring does work over 3G, which is a Plus.

Apple Responds to iTunes Hack

Over the weekend, we reported that iTunes was hacked (read here) by a rogue iPhone developer had managed to make his apps 42 of the top 50 places in the Books category in the App Store.  So we've finally gotten a press release from Apple about the subject and it says that "the developer in question, called Thuat Nguyen has been kicked out of the app store. However, the do not say clearly that fraud had happened, but if you are concrerned at all about this matter, they say to contact your bank and stop your card if any of your info was stolen... which implies that something did actually happen.

The developer Thuat Nguyen and his apps were removed from the App Store for violating the developer Program License Agreement, including fraudulent purchase patterns.

Developers do not receive any iTunes confidential customer data when an app is downloaded.

If your credit card or iTunes password is stolen and used on iTunes we recommend that you contact your financial institution and inquire about canceling the card and issuing a chargeback for any unauthorized transactions. We also recommend that you change your iTunes account password immediately. For more information on best practices for password security visit http://www.apple.com/support/itunes.

So, Steve's walled garden has a hole in it, but it seems like only a very small amount of people have been affected by the problem. Long live iTunes!

ElementCase Vapor Case For iPhone 4

ElementCase has introduced their new case for the iPhone 4 called Vapor. It is now available to pre-order off their site and will begin shipping to customers July 12. The Vapor looks really good and it has the same design as Apple's Bumper case being a band around the iPhone 4. But, this is not rubber or plastic case, the Vapor is crafted with a CNC machine from a solid block of aircraft grade aluminum (fancy term for plain aluminum) and has an anodized matte finish.

The Vapor is supposedly ultra lightweight and strong. To help protect your iPhone even more, the Vapor is also fitted with a "very high tech" shock absorbing material. The Vapor will be available in both black and pink/black colors with a price tag of $79.95. Hit up the source link to get yours.
