Apple Officially Debuts The iPhone 5S: Everything You Need To Know

As expected, today Apple has revealed the iPhone 5 successor dubbed the iPhone 5S. Nearly identical to the iPhone 5, Apple's iPhone 5S sports an all-aluminum chamfered-edge construction with updated hardware as well as new features. Still boasting a 4-inch Retina display, the iPhone 5S will be offered in two new flavors besides silver - gold and gray. For security, the iPhone 5S features a new highly anticipated redesigned home button made of laser-cut sapphire crystal instead of plastic which acts as a lens for the embedded Touch ID fingerprint sensor that can read your finger at any orientation.

iPhone 5S Redesigned Home Button With Touch ID Fingerprint Sensor Confirmed

Hours before Apple is planned to announce the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, new leaks have surfaced today showing the user guide documentation for the iPhone 5S which consequently confirms the highly rumored redesigned home button with an embedded fingerprint sensor Apple is calling the Touch ID sensor. It's essentially a silver metal ring surrounding a physical home button which may or may not light up when using Siri or possibly function as a long-awaited notification LED. This new feature will allow users to set a biometric password using their fingerprint to gain quick access to their iPhone 5S with a simple touch or swipe over the Touch ID sensor ring. Another interesting detail when looking at the iPhone 5S's redesigned home button we can see that Apple's iconic square logo has disappeared entirely off the face of the button leaving only the new metal ring as a hopeful icon replacement.

We're also expecting Apple to offer the iPhone 5S in two additional new colors in addition to the silver and black slate like champagne gold and graphite gray. Of course we'll know how it works and much more very soon.

Apple's Champagne Colored iPhone 5S Shown In All Its Sparkly Glory

One thing is for sure, Apple's iPhone 5S is coming very soon and although it'll look just like the iPhone 5, it'll come with a few hardware improvements that will make it the superior iPhone model. But apparently that's not all because Apple plans to introduce a third color that will accompany the black slate and silver aluminum colorways and that color is gold; or to be more specific a more subtle and more delicate tone of gold - champagne. Apple will allegedly hold an event on September 10th (literally just days away) to announce both the iPhone 5S and the more colorful, cheaper, plastic-made iPhone 5C. The date and champagne-colored iPhone 5S have also been confirmed by Taiwanese supply chain sources close to Reuters. The iPhone 5S will notably come with an improved back-facing camera as well as a new dual-LED flash.

Spigen Releases iPhone 5S Cases With Air Cushion Protection

Although not officially announced, Spigen has taken the liberty to start naming its new cases as iPhone 5S compatible. And of course, presumably there won't be any design differences, any iPhone 5S case will also be backwards compatible with the iPhone 5. Spigen has released what it claims to be its most protective and rugged case yet, the Tough Armor - a dual-layer Slim Armor-follow up case featuring a TPU layer with air-gap corners that help absorb shock and impacts as well as a hard outer polycarbonate shell. Lastly, an extra thick lip periphery will protect the iPhone's screen even when using a tempered glass screen protector. Spigen claims that its Touch Armor case is thinner and less bulkier than some of Otterbox's extremely protective cases, yet even so it offers the same amount of protection thanks to how it has been designed. The Touch Armor case is now available for $30 in multiple colors, and fits both the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S.

Spigen's second new case release to feature its air cushioning technology is called the Ultra Hybrid, which is a slim combination of a shock-absorbing TPU band featuring Spigen's air-gap corner protection melded with a crystal clear hard polycarbonate back design. The Ultra Hybrid's TPU band creates an even raised protection on either side to help protect both the iPhone's screen as well as the clear hard polycarbonate back from getting scratched from various surfaces. Spigen's Ultra Hybrid case is compatible with both the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S, comes in black or gray and sells for $13.

iPhone 5S To Come In Multiple iPod touch-like Colors?

It is rumored that Apple will launch the next-generation of the iPhone 5, which is believed to be the iPhone 5S, in multiple vibrant colors similar to that of the 5th-generation iPod touch. The addition of up to 8 different color choices seems highly unlikely for Apple to offer in its most expensive handheld device, but at the same time we do think it'll attract even more attention and potential buyers. When you look at what companies like HTC and Nokia have done with their most recent smartphones, the longstanding white and black flavors are certainly becoming dull and unimaginative. Remember that for the first time in years, Apple has introduced anodized aluminum colors for the 5th-generation iPod touch so it's plausible that we could see multiple color options for the next-generation iPhone. These iPhone 5S mockups made by Alex Roessner sure look delicious!
