Apple Releases New 2011 MacBook Air With Backlit Keyboard, Thunderbolt

Some rumors were true while others were far from it. As expected, Apple has released a refreshed line of ultraportables today. Starting with the new 2011 11" MacBook Air starting at $999 (that's how much a 27" LED Cinema Display costs btw), it now packs Intel's new Sandy Bridge processor, the 1.6Ghz dual-core Intel Core i5 with an optional 1.8Ghz dual-core Intel Core i7 upgrade, 64GB SSD, 2GB of memory and Intel HD Graphics 3000. The new 2011 13" MacBook Air starts at $1,299, packs Intel's 1.7Ghz dual-core Intel Core i5 128GB SSD, Intel HD Graphics 3000 and comes standard with 4GB of memory.

But that's not all, both 11" and 13" 2011 MacBook Airs now have full backlit keyboards - A much requested hardware feature since Apple removed it from the 2010 MacBook Airs, Thunderbolt ports and they come with OS X Lion installed and ready to serve. Head on over to the source link for the full customization options.

Could This Be The Redesigned 2011 MacBook Air?

What looks like a totally new redesigned MacBook Air graphic has been recentely leaked in between the cracks of all the rumors that have been circling around in these recent weeks. M.I.C Gadget reports that it got a tip from a source at Foxconn, the manufacturing plant in China that produces Apple's desired gadgets, and they believe that it is the real deal. From the pic, it looks like Apple has redesigned the hinge and the external enclosure quite a bit from the current 2010 unibody MacBook Air. Further more, who ever leaked the image has also said the new 2011 MacBook Air is thinner and much lighter. It would be typical of Apple making the MacBook Air even thinner. The pic only reveals one side which shows an SD card slot and nothing else. Apple is expected to release an updated MacBook Air very soon, but a total redesign wasn't really anticipated.

Twelve South Debuts BookBook Vintage Case For MacBook Air

Twelve South's vintage book looking case for the MacBook Air protects your expensive investment using the two rigid hardback covers while the inside is padded and lined with soft, velvety cushions. Sounds to me like a good story. The thin and light BookBook is designed exclusively for the unibody 2010 MacBook Air and is handmade using genuine leather that is hand distressed for the ultimate vintage feeling. No two BookBook cases are exactly alike. If you fancy yourself one of these vintage leather book cases for your MacBook Air, $79.95 will get you a little closer to a book you otherwise would have never touched.

Incase Perforates The Slider Case For iPhone 4, Releases Perforated MacBook Air Shells

In the perforated tradition, Incase has released a new Perforated Slider case for the iPhone 4 in white and black colors as well as a Perforated Hardshell case for the latest MacBook Air 11" and 13" in black, white and purple. The Perforated Slider case has a reduced weight that as of a regualr Slider case for the iPhone 4 and incorporates a rail design that keeps your iPhone 4 floating inside so that the back part of your iPhone 4 never comes in contact with the case.

The Perforated Hardshell case for the latest MacBook Air 11" and 13" has a similar hard shell construction while the white color has a glossy finish.  The Perforated Slider case and the Perforated Hardshell case are priced at $34.95 and $59.95, respectively.

Speck Outs TrimSleeve Sleeve For MacBook Air 11" & 13"

Speck has released the TrimSleeve for Apple's latest 11" and 13" MacBook Air. The TrimSleeve is a form fitting and ultra-slim, black faux-leather sleeve with an "executive look". It's too bad Speck charges you $49.95 and serves you fake leather instead of real quality leather. At least the TrimSleeve has a magical pull-tab for an easy removal of your extremely thin MacBook Air. You can now look like a sophisticated executive if you're not already one, but your sleeve will never smell that way.

Rumor: New Macbooks Pros Feature OS X on SSD, Larger Trackpads?

There have been tons of rumors floating around about Macbook Pro refresh with updated hardware, but that was mostly about Intel Sandy Bridge processors. There has now been another 'rumor' floating around that the new MacBook Pros are going to have a SSD drive 8-16GB boot drive that will only house OS X, applications and system files. This would be pretty cool since this might be using the same instant on that the Macbook Air has and this would also give a nice pep to the Macbook Pros. All the other data would be stored on a separate hard drive inside the system. Another 'rumor' is that the Macbook Pro's is larger trackpads. supposable this could open to easier, and more options for complex gestures. We will hopefully see sometime this week if any of these rumors are true, and if a new Macbook Pro refresh is true. Hopefully it is since its follows Apple's refresh timeline.
