TidyTilt, The Mini Smart Cover For iPhone 4S (Video)

We've speculated in the past whether Apple would make Smart Covers for the iPhone 5, but pair of designers wasted no time waiting and have come up with TidyTilt. This miniature Smart Cover-esque accessory was designed for the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 to enable multiple magnetic stand positions like Smart Covers do with the iPad 2. Rolling the TidyTilt into a mini triangle not only serves as a versatile stand for the iPhone but it'll also keep your in-ear headphones wrapped up neatly inside when folded up.

In order for the TidyTilt to mimic how a Smart Cover works and compensate for the lack of integrated magnets in the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4, a thin magnetic metal frame with a residue-free adhesive sticks to the back of the iPhone and auto-aligns the TidyTilt cover with its embedded magnets into its place while keeping it securely attached to the iPhone at all times. It can also easily detach from the frame when needed. The metal frame also doubles as a protective edge that keeps the back glass of your iPhone scratch-free while adding some magnetic clinging abilities strong enough that you can stick your iPhone onto any magnetic surface. Other than some compass interference, TidyTilt and all these magnets aren't going to harm your device.

Like all promising things, TidyTilt is a Kickstarter project waiting to come to life with the help of backing. By the looks of it, we think TidyTilt will become a reality quickly. Who wouldn't want a mini-me Smart Cover for their iPhone? Granted TidyTilt isn't actually covering and protecting the front screen of the iPhone, but we will have to leave that to Apple and the magic of embedded magnets. Apple Updates Smart Covers, Cuts The Cord On Orange

Well this is an unusual update coming from Apple. Bad news if your favorite color is orange, Apple has discontinued the orange colored polyurethane Smart Cover and instead replaced it with a dark gray polyurethane color. The price remains unchanged at $39

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Desperately Wants A Smart Cover Of Its Own

Although these Smart Cover rip-offs that were made for Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 weren't really approved by Samsung from the start, that didn't stop their accessory maker, Anymode, from bluntly copying Apple's iconic Smart Cover in exact colors and material offerings. Anymode's excuse was that their Smart Case for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 didn't use the iPad 2's and Apple's Smart Cover magnetic functionality. Samsung has already pulled the accessory made by Anymode even before Apple had the chance to get involved. I've got a feeling that you'll still be able to find these exact Smart Cover look-alikes for your Galaxy Tab 10.1 somewhere on eBay. Smart Covers make any tablet look good.

Smartsnap Connects Smart Cover To First Gen iPad

We've seen a few DIY mods before like this one, which didn't look all too sleek and low-profile as Smartfix's Smartsnap. The $20 Smartsnap is a connection kit for the first gen iPad allowing you to use Apple's Smart Cover. The thing is though, the first gen iPad does not have the iPad 2's sleep/wake magnetic functionality because it does not have any built-in sensor magnets. The good news is that the Smartsnap is a low-profile magnetic strip that sticks to the side of your first gen iPad and perfectly aligns the Smart Cover. There is very limited information as whether the Smartsnap also adds a magnetic strip to keep the Smart Cover closed onto the first gen iPad. This looks like a promising alternative to those who are looking for a Smart Cover clone with the same look and feel as Apple's original iPad Case we all loved and hated at the same time. Look Mom, It's A Fake Smart Cover

This fake Smart Cover for the iPad 2 may indeed fool you since it looks very similar to the real deal, but it really isn't. Not only is buying this Smart Cover knockoff for $33 a bad idea, it's also a smelly situation. Lesson learned kids, buying knockoffs never pays off.
