Google's Free Music Streaming Service Goes Live

Google has released all kinds of new goodies today at their I/O keynote today in San Francisco, this time Google has announced a new music streaming service called Music by Google. It's currently in beta and on invitation only basis. The whole point of Music by Google is to let you upload your music collection to Google's cloud storage and then you will be able to stream and listen to your music online and on your Android device using the Android Music app, for free. Songs that you've already fully played will be cached on your device and will be available for offline listening. Possibly the best thing off all is the ease of use, users will be able to directly upload their music library straight from iTunes or any music folder. What are you waiting for? Apple Sells 1 Million Apple TVs

 

Last week Apple said it expected the new Apple TV to top one million units before Christmas and now they have told us the have. With the addition of AirPlay for wireless streaming content from your Apple devices and how the Apple TV now costs $99 have pushed up the sales of the Apple TV. One million sold in 3 months. Not bad for a hobby. Not bad.

Beatles Come to iTunes Store

Not exactly what I was thinking when Apple said yesterday that "Tomorrow is just another day. That you'll never forget." Nevertheless, this is a big thing to Apple's music store as since 2003, one of the world biggest bands was absent from the iTunes store but now you can get all 13 of The Beatles original studio albums from iTunes for a whopping $149! 

Even though I like The Beatles, I would prefer iTunes streaming...

Apple Teases iTunes Announcement for Tomorrow

 

Well what is Cupertino cooking up here? iTunes Music streaming from that North Carolina data centre? iOS 4.2 for iPad with AirPrint? The Beatles in iTunes? On Apple's homepage it says that "exciting announcement from iTunes" and that "Tomorrow is just another day. That you'll never forget." Who knows what Apple is doing but it looks like something awesome. 

Check back on Apple.com at midnight in Tokyo, 3 PM in London, 10 AM in New York and 7 AM in California.

iOS 4.1 Jailbreak Ready

It is not even out yet, but the good people over at the iPhone Dev Team have managed to Jailbreak iOS 4.1. ?Comex, the creator of the Spirit and jailbreakme.com jailbreaks is saying that he has already located 2 exploits in iOS 4.1. The first one is similar to the jailbreakme.com jailbreak as it uses a loophole in iOS itself, which makes it simple for the user to impliment, whereas the second one is in the bootrom of the iPhone at the hardware level. Which makes the second jailbreak will be much harder to impliment than the first, but as the second one is deep down within the iPhone, it will be much harder for Apple to lock it down.

Look for it to be available the same day that iOS 4.1 is, which is rumoured to be September 8th.

Apple Responds to iTunes Hack

 

Over the weekend, we reported that iTunes was hacked (read here) by a rogue iPhone developer had managed to make his apps 42 of the top 50 places in the Books category in the App Store.  So we've finally gotten a press release from Apple about the subject and it says that "the developer in question, called Thuat Nguyen has been kicked out of the app store. However, the do not say clearly that fraud had happened, but if you are concrerned at all about this matter, they say to contact your bank and stop your card if any of your info was stolen... which implies that something did actually happen.

The developer Thuat Nguyen and his apps were removed from the App Store for violating the developer Program License Agreement, including fraudulent purchase patterns. 

Developers do not receive any iTunes confidential customer data when an app is downloaded. 

If your credit card or iTunes password is stolen and used on iTunes we recommend that you contact your financial institution and inquire about canceling the card and issuing a chargeback for any unauthorized transactions. We also recommend that you change your iTunes account password immediately. For more information on best practices for password security visit http://www.apple.com/support/itunes.

So, Steve's walled garden has a hole in it, but it seems like only a very small amount of people have been affected by the problem. Long live iTunes!

iTunes in the cloud soon!

 

When Apple bought Lala, everybody thought that iTunes in the cloud was just around the corner, and now this rumour has new light, well acording to BGR's "reliable Apple sources."  So what BGR's sources are saying it that iTunes will have these 3 things:

1. Streaming music and movies from Apple’s servers to your computers, devices, etc.
2. Streaming music and movies from your home computers to your other computers, remote devices, etc.
3. Wireless iTunes syncing with devices

The first one is relatively simple to understand. It would stream iTunes content which you have bought over the internet to your iDevice, thus eliminating the need for a lot of local storage. Secondly, Apple will apparently let you stream your own content over your WiFi network to any of your own computers and devices. And last but not least, wireless syncing of for your iDevices.

Wireless syncing,  apparently works seamlessly and it will work much like the WiFi Sync app that got rejected from the app store and is now in the Cydia store. So any apps you buy for instance on your iPhone will immediately sync to your computer, changes to your calendar, or notes, or contacts will also automatically update on your computer as well. 

So all sounds great but when will we see it? I'd put my money on it coming in iTunes 10 when it gets announced alongside the new iPods in September.
