Twelve South's Compass Got Hit With A Splash Of Color

One of our favorite accessory makers, Twelve South, has just released two new color selections for the Compass stand for the iPad and iPad 2. In addition to the raw, silvery aluminum Compass stand, a hot looking candy apple red and stealthy black colors now accompany the heavy gauge steel easel stand. The pocket sized Compass stand folds open to let you set your iPad, or iPad 2 in various different angles. And it also doubles as a typing workstation. See it in action in our full review right here. The new color additions will look great against the back aluminum of the iPad and iPad 2, and even pop more if you've got a white iPad 2. Twelve South's Compass is available now in all three colors for $39.99.

iPhone 4 Metal Edition (DIY)

If changing the back of your iPhone 4 to a different glass color cover was not enough, you might be interested in transforming it into metal or in this case brushed aluminum. The process is very easy and should take you no longer than a minute. These metal iPhone 4 back cover replacements have a slight bevel edges to them which actually hurt the cameras quality by applying a bit of black vignetting corners. Some people also noted that they have lost 1-2 bars of signal when using these metal backs on their iPhone 4. I only noticed this once in a while and it did not affect my WiFi signal at all.

You can find these replacement back covers all over eBay and on CNN.cn for under $20, not a bad deal at all considering the fit and finish is pretty fantastic minus the fact that you will have a bit of camera quality issues because of the beveled design. This will also be compatible with the Apple Bumper case leaving almost no clearance as the metal back sits flush with the edges of the Bumper case. So when you lay your iPhone 4 on a table, the metal back will actually touch the surface. If you have some doubts about doing this yourself, watch the video below and see how easy this actually is!

All you need to do in order to replace the back glass housing of your iPhone 4 is to simply remove the two little screws located in between the speaker and mic, and then you just slide the back cover upwards a bit and your done. These metal back covers are extremely cheap at $13 and would be a great idea to have instead of having to worry about glass shattering. Wired reports that this will no affect your signal in anyway, are you sold yet? You can find these metal covers along with glass replacements on eBay or directly from cnn.cn.
